About Us

Tom Summerscales

I’m Tom - the founder of Become Athletic.

Before coaching full time, I spent years in a high-pressure corporate career, so I understand what it’s like trying to stay fit while juggling work, family, stress, and everything else life throws at you.

I primarily support healthcare professionals because I understand the challenges they go through - most of my family works in healthcare - parents, uncles, my wife and more, plus most of my friends too. I’ve seen first hand the impacts of the job on your health, and how best to solve the problems you face in losing weight, getting fitter, improving your habits, getting stronger and more.

Alongside that, fitness has always been a constant for me. I’ve competed across a wide range of endurance and strength events - from Ironman and hybrid competitions to ultra marathons and charity challenges - and I use that experience to help clients build confidence in what their bodies can do.

I hold a BSc Hons in Applied Sports Science from the University of Edinburgh, I’m a Level 3 Personal Trainer, and I’m a member of the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine.

These days, I split my time between coaching, training for longer endurance events, surfing when the Scottish weather allows, and raising money through fitness challenges.

At its core, Become Athletic is about giving busy people straightforward, sustainable support — so fitness becomes something you can rely on, not another thing on your to-do list.
